Apprenticeship Details

Marysville Medical Practice is a thriving medical practice and currently has an opening for a Customer Service and Medical Receptionist.

The purpose of the role will primarily be to provide a point of contact for patients and act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors, the Primary Health Care Team and the administration staff. The position will be responsible to The Deputy Practice Manager and the key duties and responsibilities will include:

Reception Duties:

  • Ensuring efficiency of the EMIS computerised appointment system and monitor the flow of patients into consulting rooms
  • Ensuring that patients without appointments but who need to see a doctor urgently are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
  • Explaining practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure the procedures are completed
  • Advising patients of relevant charges for private medical services, accepting payment and issuing receipts for same
  • Responding to all requests for assistance from patients and other visitors
  • Entering requests for home visits into EMIS computer system, stating time received and including all relevant information and, where necessary, refer to the duty doctor
    Ensuring that reception, waiting areas, consulting rooms, corridors and toilets are kept neat and tidy

Management of EMIS Appointment Systems:

  • Ensuring total familiarity with all appointment systems in effect including regular and incidental variations
  • Booking appointments and recalls ensuring sufficient information is recorded to retrieve medical records
  • Monitoring effectiveness of the system and report any problems or variations required


Operation of Telephone System:

  • Receiving and making calls as required.
  • Diverting calls and take accurate messages as required
