Spanish History – Second Republic and Civil War (1931-1939)
About the course:
Are you interested in history? Would you like to learn more about Spanish history and culture?This course will focus on some of the most important events from the 20th century: The Second Republic and the Civil War. This period of time ranging from 1931 to 1939 saw a rise of the democratic republic after a period of dictatorship, a series of reforms aiming at developing the culture, education and rights of citizenship, as well as the coup d’état by General Francisco Franco and the civil war that followed right after.
The course will be taught in English, so no fluency level in Spanish is required.
By the end of the course you can expect to;
- Have a raised awareness about Spanish historical development and its contradictions
- Have understood the developments in human rights both cultural and educational throughout the Spanish Second Republic
- Have grasped some of the main events which occurred in Spain during the civil war and its causes
You will need:
A pen and notebook and to have watched the film beforehand.
