Course Details

In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, enjoy the calm of a morning of drawing and painting. We will explore a variety of media, techniques and subject matter, giving you the opportunity to develop your own style. Over the year we’ll be using a broad range of media, this half term we will start with pencil drawings and progress to watercolours, members need to bring their own materials. They are taught sessions but if anyone prefers to work on their own paintings in a session that’s fine. In the past it’s been possible to have a coffee break in the middle of the sessions, but we ask members to bring their own refreshments for the time being.

Level

Whether you’re new to art or have been drawing and painting for some time, all are welcome.

By the end of the course you can expect to:

  • Have developed your drawing skills using pencil
  • Draw and paint a landscape with reference to other artist’s work
  • Paint a landscape from photographic reference
  • Use watercolours with more confidence

You will need:

First Session – pencils (HB, 2B or softer) and cartridge paper, eraser and pencil, sharpener. Watercolour paints, brushes and watercolour paper for later sessions. If you’re buying these and are in any doubt, the tutor can advise what you need. A drawing board, folder for storing artwork may be useful as you progress.

Handouts will be provided as necessary. Cartridge and watercolour paper will be available for you to buy if you’d like single sheets.

Liz Doody is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator who has been teaching Graphics, Art and IT subjects for many years.

What Next:

    Each half term will be a 5-week course using a variety of subject matter and media; drawing, watercolours, acrylics, pastels…. An art group for your enjoyment.
